I am a huge fan of Jostein Gaarder, who wrote 'Sophie's world'  I think that philosophy should be taught in all schools, not just in America. Where I live in England, we are not taught it, and many people go about their lives, never thinking, and that makes me sad. Socrates once said that 'wisest is she who knows she does not know.' It may sound a bit confusing, but basically, people go around their lives, convinced that they know everything. Really they are stumbling blindly, for they do not open their eyes and realise how beautiful the world is and how little they know about it. Nic

the beginning?

an infinite circle, no beginning and no end
the cycle of life and existence competing
no leader and no follower, the inhabitants of the circle entwine and grow into one another

forever challenging and pointlessly racing the second, the minute, the hour glass
like the sands of time draining through the hole so do their souls into space

I believe that there are angels that watch over us in everyday life, keeping an eye on us to make sure we are okay. I think that there is a heaven, but also a hell and purgatory. Sometimes I used to wonder whether earth is purgatory, a place where we are meant to pay for our sins. It can be a cruel world every day, where young children are killed. I don't, however believe that those who are ill or disabled are being punished for their sins in a previous life. Someone once said that and I think that it's an awful way to think. I suppose I'm just trying to make sense of the madness, and that by looking at it in that way, I have something to look forward to after the pain and suffering. Nic

I'm sure we've all heard of "to boldly to go where no one has gone before."
But where exactly is there to go?
We know of the second, third and fourth dimension. The fourth being time.
However, we are just are just a speck in one solar system in 1 galaxy
within thousands, amongst billions of stars. It is too much of a scale for
our minds to contemplate.
Perhaps the stars are those of our past friends and relatives looking over
and guiding us through life and where the atmosphere shines brighter than
the star itself due to the loving and caring attitude they all share. Does
time even exist there I wonder. I guess we will only find out when we
leave.

Maybe there's just a huge black hole traveling through space destroying
everything in it's path as we unknowingly await it's arrival.
Personally I like to believe the first point but I guess we never will know
until we can go "where no one has gone before."

An Angel to me represents a force of nature unknown to us. A presence recorded time and time again throughout the ages. This positive glowing symbol of the thought that there could be someone guiding our fate. Particular, the word guardian. Guarding against evil? In these times we could all do with a bit of that I think. Clearly this is no black and white issue. Some of the most beautiful experiences in our lives cannot be proved as it were. Science requires proof. But were not dealing with a science here. Some many questions in this world go unanswered and so many people leaping too quickly to dismiss the "unknown", the "unproven". If you can't touch it, its not real? On that point I might argue that were not dealing with the real world. You can't be as close minded to think that this is the only plane something can exist on. I believe that things can exist outside of the bubble we live in. I'd like to think positive things, like Angels. Would I like someone guarding over my life? Yes, I would. Although, I'd like to think I make my own fate through life. Could an Angel such as this be seen as interfering with that? Steering me unconsciously to go right when I want to turn left. That would mean my life was not truly my own. Of course like any unknown good force in the world I would then find it hard to understand the process behind it. Why some are saved and others aren't! If there are Angels, particularly in the form of deceased relatives, how they come by this wisdom to intervene in the destiny of their loved ones. So many questions. I feel they won't be answered in my life time. As yet, I haven't felt any such presence and I'm not sure whether I'd ever want to be aware of it anyway. Still, everyday new barriers are being broken. What would have been considered fantasy a hundred years ago has now become the reality. I believe that I make my own fate, but if mother nature wants to give me a helping hand once in a while, be it in the form of an angel or not - I hope that she knows what she's doing!

Firstly I believe in dreams. Some may see the future but all I see is the
past and present. My dreams are like prophecies and I learn from each dream.
This enables me to live my life to the full. I believe that everyone has a
guardian angel. You may not know it yet, but believe me when you are in
trouble you will always find that a small part of your heart doesn't feel
scared.
I believe that my Nan is my guardian angel. Whenever I feel scared or lonely
I sit down and talk to her. In a way it is like the calm in the storm. I
tell her all my problems and I feel relaxed and refreshed.
Have you heard the line Dreams may come true. Well I believe that if you
really believe in them then anything can be achieved from asking a boy or
girl out to getting good grades in your exams.
